Geeky Flailing

I’m not going to get into my new job at the moment, but I’ll post in the future about it.

I just wanted to post because I’m geekishly flailing. Because I’ve got 6 computers sitting on my very large, L-shaped, cockpit desk at home. SIX! And I’m being a geek about how fun it is.

I’ve got a netbook (which I’m using for the music/sound system at the shop — my new job), my laptop (which I spent more money on than my desktop PC), my desktop PC with dual monitor setup, and three other computers and monitors I’m setting up for the shop.

I even took pictures of the computers all over the desk. I’m not going to post them, as it’s probably exciting to only me and maybe someone else very, very geeky.

I also recently ordered myself a 16gb USB 3.0 flash drive. I’ve never had a 3.0 before, and now I have a computer that has 3.0 and a flash drive that has 3.0. I love it!! I’m not letting anyone touch it 😀

Star Trek

Family dinners have usually been eaten while we watch TV together. I remember Star Trek TOS being a part of that when I was very little. My mom saved me the newspaper announcing Star Trek TNG, leaving it out for me to find when I came home from school knowing I’d be excited.

The movies were always something the whole family enjoyed and we geeked together over them. When Star Trek XI came out, we all got excited and all of us really liked it.

I find it odd that it has taken me until July 2010 to read fanfic for Star Trek of any sort and it’s all Keira’s fault that I read it in the first place.

I have been devouring her SGA fics for quite awhile and especially liked The Ties That Bind. Keira’s inspiration was Xanthe’s General & Dr. Sheppard ‘Verse. I have been a huge fan of Xanthe for years.

Keira recently updated Tangled Destinies at the end of July and I decided to check it out because I have really liked everything she has written, including The Awakening which is a Sentinel fic.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed reading Tangled Destinies, even more than Keira’s writing could account for and so I started to search LJ for more.

I found kyliselle‘s Master Fic List. She doesn’t have a ton, but I liked it. Also right now I’m reading So Wise We Grow by captanddeastar and it is very cute so far.

I am just starting to explore this fandom, but I’m already enjoying it a lot. I get a kick out of telepathy fics and always loved the claiming aspect of AtS/BtVS fics, so I really should have checked out Star Trek fic a long time ago, especially considering the size of this fandom, but I’m excited to dive into it all.

Dexter with Spoilers and Art

I really, really love the Showtime series Dexter. I watched the season five premier last night and…

Even though I hated how whiny Rita could be, I liked seeing Dexter deal with her and how she could make him smile even if it was that cute twitch of his lips. You could see that he loved her very much in his own way.</p>
The sounds that Michael C. Hall made when Dexter was on the floor of the restroom after he killed that dude were something I’ll probably never forget. I don’t know what MCH was thinking of and don’t even know if I want to know, but he gave me chills.

I had heard that Julie Benz would be making appearances this season and was kinda disappointed about that, but I actually liked seeing the flashbacks from when she and Dexter met.I liked John Lithgow’s performance so much last year that I didn’t want the season to end. I knew the guy could be creepy and liked him even before he signed on for Dexter, but I was even more impressed with his role on Dexter than I already had been with him.I didn’t think they could top season four, but was excited because I’ve enjoyed everything they’ve done so far. After last night’s episode, I am even more excited about season five.Other than LitGal’s short Dexter fanfic I read awhile back, I haven’t found much Dexter fanfic. I am doubtful I could find amazingly good fanfic for it, but I’d still like to be able to find some that is a bit creepy and well-written. I’ve read some very good fanfic in the past and wish I could persuade some of the writers I’ve really liked to write in fandoms like Dexter, but I’ve felt the same way about Boondock Saints, Oz and some others.

And now for something completely different. Having really liked quite a few pieces of well-done fanart, I’m always on the lookout for more. I shouldn’t be surprised by this, but it still cracked me up and I felt the need to share. I apologize ahead of time for feeling the need to share.

Revamped Journal

I’ve been working for the last few days on my LJ as a whole. I’ve always had a hard time trying to figure out what theme I wanted to go with and it hit me a few days ago that I could use the same theme for my LJ that I have for my computer.

My current desktop is Blue Eye and you can view it by clicking on its name. It’s being hosted at TinyPic.com.

I have been obsessively tweaking the whole journal for the last few days, but I think I’m finally to the point where I really like what I have so far. I’m not all that thrilled with the journal’s black and white background, but I haven’t found anything I really like yet and have had trouble finding anything that is subtle and subdued to where it doesn’t detract from the rest of the journal.

After getting most of it done, I discovered that my bio table didn’t work in IE, though it looked fine in Firefox. I usually use Firefox and just happened to think of checking out the whole journal in IE just in case. After much more tweaking, I think I finally have it.

As I have never done more than an introduction post before, I’ll be needing to learn a bunch of new stuff. Part of that will be tagging, but I’m hoping that my Delicious experience will help with that.
